The first thing you will notice is that THERE ARE NO SPELLS ON THIS WEBSITE. I did that for a reason: I think spells are better when written by the practitioner, and any spell I may write would not work for someone else. I also must mention that spells are a very minor part of the Wiccan religion. But there are other things you can put into a Book of Shadows.... One of the first resources of information I was sent to/found was the Riders of the Crystal Winds Book of Shadows. You could download the entire book in several Zip files...all of the articles were text files, and worthy of long perusal. There were few rituals, even fewer spells, and navigating the pages was utter hell...but it was worth it. Today you can find all (or almost all) the files from the ROCW BOS at http://www.paganlibrary.com in html and in a much better organizational style. Why do I mention this? When you think of what goes into a Book of Shadows, you might immediately think of spells, rituals, and all the information you might think you need to know to practice Wicca. In truth, the ROCW BOS contained articles that were printed in newsletters and books, and were more informative in the learning process as opposed to just being lists of correspondences and spells. The pages you will find in this section are articles, essays, and lists of correspondences that will help you with practicing Wicca. They are an aid to our practices. You may or may not agree with some of the details, but what it boils down to is this is the kind of information I have printed out and stuck in a binder (my first BOS) and have used when I needed a quick answer. They are not "Wicca in a nutshell," but helpful additions to any information you collect over the years. How to Cast a Circle - This page stemmed from a question on the forum. I cleaned up what I wrote, and made it into an article here. Spells - As I said, there are no spells on this website. I did that on purpose. But that doesn't mean I didn't write an article about them! Meditation - Up until recently, I was terrible at meditating. Here are some ways I found to overcome that problem. Purification - Do you ever get that not so spiritually-fresh feeling? Here are some ways to overcome that, particularly before ritual. Candles and Colors - Many Wiccans like a lot of candles. Here are some uses, and the meanings of their colors. Symbolism - A list of some common meanings for various symbols. Pagan and Wiccan Music - MorningDove (from the Forum) has provided several links and descriptions of Pagan and Wiccan Music. These are useful for your rituals, meditation, and even during mundane tasks. Sabbat Poems - A set of poems written by Uncle Hyena...perfect for recitation during your Sabbat rituals. Astrology - A very VERY quick reference to the study of astrology. Tarot - Also a very VERY quick reference...this time for the Tarot. How to Make a Basic Wand - I've seen pre-made wands selling for $20 a pop sticking out of a coffee can like pencils at a witchnook...save your money and make a much more personal tool yourself! Journal Topics - Writer's block got you down? It happens to me all the time! This is a list of journal topics to consider and write about when you're looking to make a new entry to your BOS that reflects your own personal beliefs.
